 Nicole Hardimanby Marianne Hardiman2006 St. Anthony School Programs Graduate"Nicole, our daughter, is a truly special person. She was enrolled in the St. Anthony School Programs for 13 years. I'll never forget the public school officials that discouraged us from putting her in the St. Anthony Program. They said she would never be able to attend an inclusive classroom nor would she ever read. Needless to say, we were devastated with this news. We wanted her to at least try, and we are so glad we gave her the chance. She entered the second grade at Word of God Elementary School. That fall, she came home from school and told me she had a surprise for me. I was to sit on the couch. She took a book out and read it to me. I was in tears. The public school officials had been so wrong. "She has continued to make steady progress in all social and academic endeavors. The staff at St. Anthony's are a very special group of people. They work with their students on a daily basis to improve the quality of their life, as well as teaching them religious and moral values. This is very important to us as a family. At Serra High School, she was in Chorus, gym and computer keyboarding. The most important part of her stay at Serra was going to St. Angela Merici and helping the teacher with the kindergarten students. She wants to continue to work with young children. She was presented with the Joan of Arc Medallian from the St. Lucy's Auxillary. She completed over 400 volunteer hours (100 was the requirement) at St. Angela Merici School, UPMC McKeesport Hospital, and at Word of God (our parish) Food Bank. She will be the first St. Anthony student to receive this award and she has worked hard for it. "We are so very proud of her and all her accomplishments. I feel her time in the St. Anthony Program was truly well worth it." |
