St. Anthony School Inclusive Education programs are located in host schools where we rent one classroom called the "resource room." Each resource room is staffed by at least one special education teacher and at least one para-professional. St. Anthony's also employs a variety of itinerant support staff such as a Behavior Health Specialist, Motor Skills Instructor, Daily Living Skills Instructor, Job Coaches, Health Care Coordinator, and Speech Therapists.
Children are included in the activities of the host school as much as possible. They are placed in age-appropriate homerooms, have access to all of the non-academic areas such as lunch, recess, prayer services, assemblies, art, music, gym, etc. Some students require adults to help them succeed in these inclusive classes. Para-professionals, volunteers, foster grandparents and special education teachers provide this support. The goal is to allow the child to function as independently as possible, to facilitate interactions with the typical children and to help the child acquire appropriate social skills.
A team of special educators, parents, regular teachers, the building principal, para-professionals, support staff and St. Anthony administrative personnel determine the academic program, or Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each of our students.
